Rajahmundry: The ongoing stir for Samaikyandhra is having debilitating impact on several key sectors including tourism and hospitality industry in addition to trade and commerce denting the exchequer.

Tourists who used to arrive in large numbers to enjoy the lush green pastures in Konaseema region, cruising on Godavari river to visit Papikondalu and those who embark on temple tourism to visit the Pancharama temples and others in Godavari districts, are deferring their travel plans.

The reason for this is that they are not sure of reaching their destinations especially by road as the RTC buses remained off the road for so long while private operators started fleecing the tourists by charging extra fare.

Even if the tourists intend to engage their personal transport, they are not sure of reaching their destination as per schedule for the reason that they have to face a series of hurdles on the highways as the supporters of Samaikyandhra are blocking the roads for several hours to stage protests.

However, the impact is relatively less on tourist destinations in Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam as they are well connected with rail and airways. Tourists visit Haritha Coconut County Resorts popularly known as Dindi Resorts located on the banks of Godavari river.

They used to enjoy the lush green vegetation, coconut grooves spread over on either side of the road and a canal along the road. People especially from Telangana region love the bounteous beauty of the nature unfolding in this region and also envy its beauty.

Tourists used enjoy the sailing on the backwaters of the river in the house boats. Antarvedi, where the Godavari river empties itself into the sea is also important tourist spot.

On the other hand, cruising on curvaceous Godavari river enjoying the hill ranges, valleys, islets and animals, has also affected as the tourists are unwilling the take the risk.

Moreover, as the Godavari is flowing in full spate, the authorities discontinued operations. AP Tourism Development Corporation authorities admit that the number of bookings for Dindi Resorts and Papikondalu dwindled drastically.

Hospitality industry is also affected as the people are deferring their travel plans. Hoteliers maintain that occupancy ratio is dwindling while group bookings are getting cancelled. Temple tourism is also affected as the devotees are unable to get proper transport facilities to reach the temples and offer prayers.
