In state Secretariat, employees hailing from Andhra-Rayalaseema regions boycotted work and organised a community lunch on the premises. They raised slogans demanding that Andhra Pradesh be kept united.
Hyderabad: Samaikyandhra stirs continued at various places with rallies and rasta rokos seeing large turnout of people from all walks of life. Agitators continued their efforts to pressurise the decision-makers to reverse their decision on the state’s bifurcation.
The stir entered its 28th day in the temple town of Tirupati Samaikyandhra Parirakshana Samiti, a forum of intellectuals spearheading the movement in Tirupati, organised an ‘Open School’ at the municipal circle in Tirupati. Hundreds of students gathered at the spot and raised slogans.
At Srikakulam, JAC district functionaries decided to block National Highway-16 on August 31. YSRC Srikakulam segment leaders V. Kalyani and A. Suribabu launched a relay hunger fast and the party Etcherla segment leaders took out bike rally from Ranastalam to Srikakulam.
Minister for stamps and registration Thota Narasimham, along with other Samaikyandhra activists, released doves in Rajahmundry in a symbolic gesture seeking peace in the Seemandhra region as well as the Telangana region.
Narasimham called upon all those who want the state to remain united to wage a relentless war against the Congress leadership until it withdraws its proposal to bifurcate the state. He, however, advocated peaceful protests.
In Guntur, YSRC leaders staged a rasta roko on NH-5, at Reddypalem village, demanding equal justice for three regions or keep the state united. The party leaders raised slogans against the unilateral decision of the Congress high command to split the state and demanded the Centre to roll back its decision to safeguard interests of the Seemandhra people.
JACs obstruct pilgrims
Tirupati: All Joint Action Committees spearheading the ongoing Samaikyandra agitation came under one roof to intensify the stir. The JAC leaders have decided to besiege the city of Tirupati from 9 am on Wednesday to 5 pm on Thursday.
These JACs have also advised the pilgrims to not enter the city. Pilgrims must instead choose either the Mangalam route or the SV Zoo Park route to reach Tirumala through Alipiri toll gate.
District collector Solomon Arokiaraj, joint collector Vinay Chand and Tirupati Urban SP S.V. Rajasekhar held an emergency meeting with the delegates of all JACs on Tuesday and discussed the scheduled encirclement of Tirupati.
