Hyderabad: Ticket prices in multiplexes could see a hike if film producers and distributors decide to pass on the service tax element to consumers. Film producers have not paid service tax on temporary transfer of cinematographic copyright for the last two years expecting an exemption.
However, the government also seems unrelenting. Film producers say they will decide on the issue after seeking clarifications from finance minister P. Chidambaram. Producers were expecting a retrospective amendment in the law exempting temporary transfer of cinematography from service tax.
