N. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
Hyderabad: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy said he “speaks only what is true”, in the backdrop of his Thursday’s observation that people will vote out governments that fail to take right decisions, that created ripples in the political circles. The Chief Minister told this newspaper that he always talks with conviction and not with an eye on political future.
The Chief Minister while speaking at “Telugu Language Day” celebrations, referred to the state division and laid emphasis on majority of the public opinion, put in the interests of party above individuals, besides praying that Telugu talli gives strength to take a courageous decision. This led to speculations that he might consider floating a new political outfit.
“I always believed in destiny. I never thought I would become the Chief Minister when I entered politics. I leave my future also to destiny,” he said when asked about his future in politics.
He was of the strong view that his stand for united Andhra Pradesh was justified on administrative grounds, in more than one way, be it river water sharing, law and order, status of Hyderabad and employment opportunities for future generations.
He also made stern efforts to convince Sonia Gandhi and party heirapparent Rahul Gandhi on the need to keep the state united. The Chief Minister did not hesitate to reveal his mind to the people, through media, after the Congress Working Committee decided in favors of creating Telangana state. He was of the view that he was only repeating what he was told by the party leadership.
Sources told this newspaper that the Chief Minister had been thoroughly studying the adverse impact of the division on farm sector in both Andhra and Telangana regions. He is likely to share his views soon on complications that may arise in river water sharing in the event of the division.
Meanwhile, his detractors accuse him of defying the party leadership as he is convinced that the latter is not in a position to convene legislature party and select a new leader. “He believes that the High Command will not disturb him for next few months as Assembly has to be convened on T state Bill,” a senior minister from Telangana pointed out.
Some leaders feel that he may float a new party, while others view his move as an attempt to establish himself as the lone leader in Congress with credibility in Seemandhra region.
