Hyderabad: The City police commissioner has banned politicians and non-employees from entering government buildings for any sort of demonstrations, whether ‘anti’ or ‘pro’ Telangana.
Commissioner Anurag Sharma on Tuesday said that police have noticed a few politicians and outsiders making their way into government buildings where peaceful agitations were going on and provoking the activists.
“Outsiders and political leaders will not be allowed to participate in protests at government offices. This could lead to tension. We will intervene if the protesters in the building turn violent,” he said.
Addressing the media at his office, the commissioner appealed to people not to resort to violence. He urged them to agitate in a peaceful and democratic way.
“They can organise peaceful protests, but we will not give permission for outsiders’ participation, which could disrupt peace and harmony. Stern action will be taken against those who create a law-and-order problem,” the police chief continued.
Referring to the APNGOs’ meeting and rally on September 7, Sharma said that no permission has been given to any group for the protest rally. “We have not given permission to any group for the coming agitation in the city, we are still assessing the situation,” he said.
The commissioner said that police have not booked any specific cases regarding the ongoing protests in the city, but have made preventive arrests.
Employees from Seemandhra and Telangana almost came to blows during their protests at government offices, including Vidyut Soudha, Jala Soudha and other government offices over the past few days.
Asked why police did not interfere inside the Secretariat whenever protests took place, he said that the Secretariat premises were manned by the SPF, and they were taking care of the situation.
Prohibitory orders are already in force in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, with police banning public meetings, processions and gatherings on roads and public places.
