Activists join hands for unity

More than one lakh students from private schools formed a massive human chain in Kurnool on Friday for the cause unity of state. — DC

Anantapur: The private schools management JAC formed a human chain at Kurnool on Friday in protest against the move bifurcate the state. Around one lakh students, NGOs and other activists participated in the protest.

All the roads were blocked during the huge protest that covered nearly 20 locations including the Hyderabad-Bengaluru NH 44.

The students came on to the roads at around 10.30 am. Konda Reddy Fort, Ambedkar Circle, collectorate and Telugu-talli Circle were jammed with students shouting slogans.

Private Schools JAC convener K. Pullaiah demanded that the Centre should reverse the bifurcation decision. The protest, however, was held without the involvement of political parties.

Meanwhile, the police foiled the fast unto death by Banganipalli MLA Katasani Rami Reddy at Banaganiplli due to his deteriorating health. His indefinite fast, expressing solidarity with Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy had the reached fifth day and police forcibly shifted him to hospital. The Banaganipalli MLA had quit the Congress and was extending support to the YSR Congress.

However, Panyam MLA Katasani Rambhupal Reddy ended his 48-hour fast at the Sri Krishnadevaraya statue at Kurnool. Former mayor Raghurami Reddy offered lemon juice to the MLA as he ended his protest.

In Kadapa, Badvel MLA Kamalamma of the Congress faced an embarrassing situation at Badvel when she went to express solidarity with Samikyandhra activists. The non-political JAC leaders stopped her from speaking on the occasion and demanded that she quit her MLA’s post and party.The YSR Congress and TD leaders are continuing their indefinite fast at the collectorate in Kadapa.

In Anantapur, the YSR Congress held a jail baro at the rural police station here protesting the police foiling the indefinite fast by their party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Party central committee member Y. Visweswar Reddy, MLAs B. Gurunath Reddy and Kapu Ramachandra Reddy participated on the occasion. They took out a procession in Anantapur as part of the jail bharo programme.
With the agitation reaching its 31st day RTC buses were confined to depots in all the three districts.
