Bypoll campaign turns personal in B'lore Rural:

Bypoll campaign turns personal in B'lore Rural:

Channapatna/Kunigal, PM Raghunandan, Aug 16, 2013, DHNS :
HDK minces no words while attacking Siddu

“If a sheep dies, this Congress government gives Rs 3,000 as compensation. But, if a farmer suffers crop losses on an acre, he just gets Rs 1,200 from the government.”

When JD (S) state president H D Kumaraswamy made these comments at an election rally in Channapatana in Ramanagara district on Friday, the crowd in this Vokkaliga belt hooted. Kumaraswamy was trying to drive home a point that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who has branded the JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda clan as casteist, is not better. Siddaramaiah belongs to the Kuruba (shepherd) community.

On the contrary, D K Suresh, the Congress candidate for the Lok Sabha by-elections from Bangalore Rural constituency, was seen hopping from village to village in Kunigal taluk of Tumkur district explaining to people that they would have to vote again due to the by-elections. He was just seeking votes for the Congress without taking the name of his main rival Anitha Kumaraswamy of the JD(S).

Kumaraswamy, who campaigned briskly in Bangalore Rural for his wife Anitha, did not mince words when he expressed his contempt for Siddaramaiah or his hopes of seeing his father Deve Gowda as the prime minister again as the Third Front’s candidate. However, Anitha did not campaign on Friday as she busy celebrating the Varamahalakshmi festival.

Referring to the much talked Anna Bhagya scheme of the Congress government, the JD(S) leader told the gathering that though rice was being given at Re one-a-kg, there has been a steep hike in bus fares. Even, the liquor prices have gone up by Rs 20 and, there is at least one person in every family who consumes alcohol. So, how can the government claim that it is pro-people, Kumaraswamy questioned.

“Siddaramaiah has been alleging that I, as an MLA and MP, has done nothing for Ramangara. Let Siddaramaiah come for a public debate where he can explain his contribution to Chamundeshwari and compare it with my work in Ramanagara. Let people decide whose contribution is worthwhile,” he challenged.

Towards Third Front

In an interaction Deccan Herald, Kumaraswamy tried his best to explain the “strategy” adopted by his party for the byelections. “Our target is 2014 Lok Sabha elections. We have no tie up with the BJP or any other party because we are hoping that the Third Front would come to power. If such a development takes place, then Deve Gowda may become the prime minister again. Why should he not aim for it? We are not rigid about any ideology or commitment to any one party. We are working with an open mind keeping the general elections in view.” He said his party would have an easy victory in Mandya, while the sympathy factor would work in favour of Anitha as she had lost the recent Assembly polls from Channapatna.

In Kunigal, the Congress nominee Suresh said people belonging to the minority communities are cut up with the JD(S) because it has joined hands with the BJP. This would help the Congress to win the seat, he claimed.

When reporters asked him what him about his promises for the constituency as he would be left with just six to eight months as MP, if elected, Suresh said, “What can I promise? If I am elected, I will go to voters’ door steps and thank them. As MP, Kumaraswamy had never visited Kunigal.”

BSY aide seeks votes for JD(S)

Ka Pu Siddalinga Swamy, a close associate of the KJP president B S Yeddyurappa, is now busy campaigning for Anitha Kumaraswamy of the JD(S).

As the KJP candidate from Varuna constituency in Mysore district, Swamy had lost the May 5 Assembly elections to Siddaramaiah.

On Friday, Swamy was seen briefing Kumaraswamy that he had completed campaigning for Anitha in two Assembly constituencies, including Magadi. He shook hands with the JD(S) leader before leaving a restaruant where they met.
