Hyderabad: Justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao of the AP High Court on Wednesday allowed students to attend counselling in any centre, irrespective of the region they come from.

The judge also directed police authorities to provide protection to all the counselling centres and ensure that counselling  goes on smoothly.

Eamcet options put off:
The thin attendance of students in the ongoing Eamcet engineering counselling, due to disruption in Seemandhra region, has forced the government to postpone the ‘option-entry’ schedule indefinitely.

Students who attended for certification verification in the counselling are supposed to exercise their options on the web on their preferred colleges and courses from August 22. This has now been postponed. Fresh schedule will be notified soon. However, the ongoing certificate verification will go on as scheduled.

Though majority of the counselling centres in Seemandhra region continue to remain non-functional, attendance has been improving with each passing day.

On the first day, just 1,896 students have attended in Seemandhra region, which increased to 3,250 on Tuesday and to 4,216 on Wednesday. The corresponding figures in Telangana region are 3,846 on Day-1, which increased to 5,216 and 5,268 respectively on subsequent days.

“The fresh dates for option-entry will be announced soon. We want to ensure maximum attendance for counselling,” said Sathi Reddy, secretary, AP SCHE.

Officials have set up 34 counselling centres in Seemandhra region. However, only 15 and 14 centres have functioned on the first two days.

 Court will monitor counselling: Judge:

After the disruption of Eamcet counselling, the AP High Court has ruled to provide protection in counselling centres.

The AP High Court  was dealing with a writ petition by E. Roja and six others from Anantapur district, seeking a direction to the state government to provide adequate security arrangements at counselling centres across the state. Counselling has commenced on August 19 across the state but there are fears that the ongoing Seemandhra agitation will derail the process.

Taking a firm stance, the judge said he hoped that the authorities have taken effective measures for the smooth completion of the counselling in Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.

While adjourning the hearing to next week, the Judge said that the court will monitor the counselling process.
