Divergent views on Food Bill

Rajahmundry: The representatives of major political parties, the BJP, the Telugu Desam and the YSR Congress expressed different views on the implementation of the Food Security Bill which was cleared by Parliament two days ago.

But the Congress leaders give the entire credit to Mrs Sonia Gandhi as the architect for it, terming it as great achievement. While the BJP, though it supported the bill on the floor of the House, says that it is a political bill of the Congress which they had to support for the sake of people of the country. While the YSRC is of the opinion that so many hurdles have to be cleared in the implementation with the huge requirement of funds in the days of slump in the value of rupee.

The Telugu Desam however expressed the opinion that the programme is good provided it is implemented in an effective way. The APCC member and senior Congress leader Kamana Prabhakara Rao hailed it as a gift to 75 per cent poor people of this country to provide two-square meal per day.

The provision of seven kilos of rice to each member of the family free of cost irrespective of the number is of immense help to the poor, the Congress leader felt.

The Telugu Desam East Godavari unit president Nimmakaiyala Chinarajappa felt that the scheme is good provided it is implemented in an effective way. But there are so many issues that have to be taken into consideration in the present crisis of dwindling repee value.

“We have an economist in Dr Manmohan Singh as Prime Minister of this country who should do something to stop the rupee value from further slump,” Mr Rajappa felt.

The BJP national executive committee member Somu Veerraju revealed that the BJP supported the bill on the floor of the House for the sake of people only. He accused the Congress for introducing the bill to get political mileage.

The YSRC East Godavari women’s wing president K. Nirmala Kumari expressed serious doubts over the implementation of the food security programme.

The government, which cannot even provide water and power for cultivation to farmers, apart from its inability to control the soaring prices and support price to farmers on their produce, cannot do justice to poor man. It is only a politically motivated and namesake programme, Nirmala felt.
